Categorising your packaging

When reporting your packaging volumes, it is important that you know which categories your packaging belongs to.

Categorisation is about determining:

  • whether the packaging is single-use packaging or reusable packaging
  • how the packaging becomes waste
  • what the packaging is made of
  • and whether the packaging must be eco-modulated (green, yellow or red level)

On this page, we guide you step by step on how to categorise your packaging in accordance with the rules on producer responsibility.

The first thing you need to determine is whether your packaging is single-use packaging or reusable packaging.

The two types are often confused, so we recommend that you read the pages below carefully before submitting your report.

Once you have determined whether the packaging is single-use or reusable packaging, you must decide whether it should be sorted as ordinary waste, residual waste or hazardous waste.

Get an overview of how to identify the packaging’s main and sub-components, and how they must be reported.

If your packaging meets a number of design criteria set by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, you may be able to achieve lower costs.
